The Unseen of Motherhood
Mother is often seen as the symbol of resilience, courage, and unwavering support.
Mother is the one who has all the answers to our questions, and who we are always comfortable to lean on.
However, while celebrating their nurturing presence, we sometimes forget the truth that mothers, too, are individuals, with their own vulnerabilities and complexities.
Through a collection of wearable art from mama artists based in Singapore, we offer a fresh perspective for you to see the multifaceted nature of motherhood. Together, we will celebrate the laughter and tears, triumphs and setbacks, and the strength and vulnerabilities of mothers.
Through this collaboration between ANS.EIN and Mama on Palette, we aim to urge a deeper appreciation of the roles mothers play in our families and communities. They are more than just caregivers; they are beautiful, dynamic individuals who can be strong yet scared, confident yet confused, joyous yet disheartened. By seeing the “unseen of motherhood”, we can become a better support system for them, just as they have always been for us.
Join us in this journey, as we explore the depths of motherhood through the eyes of those who live, and wear it every day.
About Mama on Palette:
Mama on Palette is Singapore's first community for mothers who love arts. It was founded by Alice in 2018 after she became a new mother. Through her pregnancy experience, she discovered art as a tool to help her walk out of baby blues. Recognizing the healing power of art and with the hope to raise awareness towards mothers’ mental wellness, Alice started building Mama on Palette to gather mothers who love art. It provides all types of support to mothers who are passionate about arts, such as inspiring articles, artist features, art exhibitions, sharing sessions and workshops.
Now with 300 members and growing, Mama on Palette has collaborated with public libraries, NGOs and private institutions for a variety of art exhibitions and workshops featuring mother and women artists in Singapore. It was featured on Channel NewsAsia, The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Capital 958, Channel 8, and recognised as a leading Ground up Movement (GUM) by Singapore Kindness Movement in 2021.
